Beloved, are you keeping fresh as we were made to be? Are you keeping your tune to meet up with the standard note as were also advised to be? Keeping fresh means we must keep abiding unto Jesus, maintaining the standard note outlined three key things to us – studying and reading the Word of God, Partnering in Kingdom work and thirdly, praying. Are you doing the latter so that the former will be visible?

You can only abide when you are reading and studying the Word of God, helping in disciplining others in God’s kingdom, and spent time in praying.

We are going to pray today, but before then we must look at the topic we are considering today- “A Disciplined Tongue.”   Beloved, what do you understand by a disciplined tongue?

The Word of God listed out various functions of the tongue- an untamed tongue -Ps 39:1, 34:13, 52:2,4, 50:19, 120:3, 10:7, 5:9, 12:3-4

A Disciplined tongue, Ps 35:28, 37:30, 45:1, 51:14, 120:2, isa 50:4, 54:17, 1 Cor 14:2,4, 14, Jas 1:2, 3:5-6, 8, 1Pet 3:10.

God also speaks to us and He can as well posses the tongue of a man to perfect His work as he did with Ezekiel and Isaiah- Isa 45:23, Ezek 3:26-27, Isa 50:4.

Beloved, God gave us a tongue to build up and not to tear down. Our tongue is meant to pray God’s blessings into our lives, our loves ones and not destroyed. Do you have a disciplined tongue? If not, here is an opportunity for you to pray and be heard from heaven to ask God to discipline your tongue. Let your tongue henceforth be for building up and not to destroy any man/ woman.

May God help us as we pray today. we must pray down God’s blessing upon our lives and rebuke from cursed from the pit of hell against our lives. We must learn to keep out tongue quite in presence of our enemies and away from destruction. The Lord will hear us and deliver us from all evil in Jesus Name.

A Disciplined Tongue

Lord, set up a guard for my mouth; keep watch at the door of my lips.—Psalm 141:3

Proverbs 10:19 states, “The one who controls his lips is wise.” I’m glad God included in the Psalms and Proverbs the words that are before us today about controlling our speech. It’s important to talk, but talking too much is as bad as not talking at all. Proverbs extols rationing our words.

Once, when Thomas Edison the inventor was at a reception, the toastmaster stood up and complimented him on his many inventions, especially the talking machine. After the toastmaster sat down, the aged inventor rose to his feet and said, “Thank you for those remarks, but I must correct one thing. It was God who invented the talking machine. I only invented the first one that can be shut off.”

A doctor told me that once, while writing out a prescription, he asked a woman to put out her tongue. When he had finished, she said to him, “But doctor, you never even looked at my tongue.” The doctor replied, “It wasn’t necessary, I just wanted you to keep quiet while I wrote the prescription.” Amidst the humor of today’s notes, don’t miss the point—words are important, but don’t overdo them. I like the advice of an anonymous poet who wrote:

If your lips would keep from slips

Five things observe with care:

Of whom you speak, to whom you speak,

And how and when and where.

A wise person has a disciplined tongue. Many need to learn this, for, like the tongue in old shoes, our tongue is often the last thing to be worn out. If a disciplined tongue is your need, ask God to help you, for an undisciplined tongue is an unloving tongue.

Prayer

Father, I realize that oftentimes my tongue is the most difficult thing to bring under control. Yet I have the promise of Your help even in this. I give you my tongue to be bridled—take over the reins. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
