Everlasting Father, thank You for a blessed day like this, we are grateful unto You for waking us up this morning from the land of the dead, thank You Father. Accept our thanksgiving offering for the great things You have done and yet to do; We praise You, we worship You now and forever more. Amen!

Beloved, is time for prayer, are you ready!!! Do you know that men of God are men of prayer? You cannot serve God effectual without prayer, put another way you cannot do exploits for the Lord without a strong prayer altar.

Hence we see that prayer holds a high place among the exercises of a spiritual life. All God’s people have been praying people. Look, for instance, at Baxter! He stained his study walls with praying breath; and after he was anointed with the unction of the Holy Ghost, sent a river of living water over Kidderminster, and converted hundreds. Luther and his companions were men of such mighty pleading with God,that they broke the spell of ages, and laid nations subdued at the foot of the Cross. John Knox grasped all Scotland in his strong arms of faith; his prayers terrified tyrants.

Whitefield, after much holy, faithful closet-pleading, went to the Devil’s fair, and took more than a thousand souls out of the paw of the lion in one day. See a praying Wesley turn more than ten thousand souls to the Lord! Look at the praying Finney, whose prayers, faith, sermons and writings, have shaken this whole country, and sent a wave of blessing through the churches on both sides of the sea. All these are possible because they desired it and God honored them. He is in their frontline and also Mighty in battle:

“The Lord, he is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.” Deut. 31:8

In the presence of a great work or a great warfare, here is a text which should help us to buckle on our harness. If Jehovah Himself goes before us, it must be safe to follow. Who can obstruct our progress if the Lord Himself is in the van? Come, brother soldiers, let us make a prompt advance! Why do we hesitate to pass on to victory?

Nor is the Lord before us only; He is with us. Above, beneath, around, within is the omnipotent, omnipresent One. In all time, even to eternity, He will be with us even as He has been. How this should nerve our arm! Dash at it boldly, ye soldiers of the cross, for the Lord of hosts is with us!

Being before us and with us, He will never withdraw His help. He cannot fail in Himself, and He will not fail toward us. He will continue to help us according to our need, even to the end. As He cannot fail us, so He will not forsake us. He will always be both able and willing to grant us strength and succor till fighting days are gone.

Let us not fear nor be dismayed; for the Lord of hosts will go down to the battle with us, will bear the brunt of the fight, and give us the victory.

For our God is mighty in battle and will win every battle for His children. Beloved what battle of life are you facing presenting? Don’t you ever give up on God for He will never give up on you. Hold on to Him, He will give you victory at last; remember He can never be late:

“The Lord mighty in battle.” Psalm 24:8

Well may our God be glorious in the eyes of His people, seeing that He has wrought such wonders for them, in them, and by them. For them, the Lord Jesus upon Calvary routed every foe, breaking all the weapons of the enemy in pieces by His finished work of satisfactory obedience; by His triumphant resurrection and ascension He completely overturned the hopes of hell, leading captivity captive, making a show of our enemies openly, triumphing over them by His cross.

Every arrow of guilt which Satan might have shot at us is broken, for who can lay anything to the charge of God’s elect? Vain are the sharp swords of infernal malice, and the perpetual battles of the serpent’s seed, for in the midst of the church the lame take the prey, and the feeblest warriors are crowned.

The saved may well adore their Lord for His conquests in them, since the arrows of their natural hatred are snapped, and the weapons of their rebellion broken. What victories has grace won in our evil hearts! How glorious is Jesus when the will is subdued, and sin dethroned! As for our remaining corruptions, they shall sustain an equally sure defeat, and every temptation, and doubt, and fear, shall be utterly destroyed.

In the Salem of our peaceful hearts, the name of Jesus is great beyond compare: He has won our love, and He shall wear it. Even thus securely may we look for victories by us. We are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. We shall cast down the powers of darkness which are in the world, by our faith, and zeal, and holiness; we shall win sinners to Jesus, we shall overturn false systems, we shall convert nations, for God is with us, and none shall stand before us.

Back to our praying fathers, Since I began,” said Dr. Payson when a student, “to beg God’s blessing on my studies, I have done more in one week than in the whole year before.” Luther, when most pressed with work, said, “I have so much to do that I cannot get on without three hours a day praying.” And not only do theologians think and speak highly of prayer; men of all ranks and positions in life have felt the same. General Havelock rose at four o’clock, if the hour for marching was six, rather than lose the precious privilege of communion with God before setting out. Sir Matthew Hale says: “If I omit praying and reading God’s Word in the morning, nothing goes well all day.”

“A great part of my time,” said McCheyne, “is spent in getting my heart in tune for prayer. It is the link that connects earth with heaven.

Finally brethren, ‘Give me children,’ cried Rachel, ‘or else I die.’ ‘Let me breathe,’ says a man gasping, ‘or else I die.’ ‘Let me pray,’ says the Christian, ‘or else I die.’’  Dearly beloved, is that your heart-felt prayer? This day let the Christian warrior chant the war song, and prepare for tomorrow’s fight. Greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world.

Remain blessed in the Lord.
